Another check off of the bucket list! This time it’s not a fish. It’s a boat. The River Hawk B60 is a bit of an enigma and is best described as a type of “Gheenoe”; Which is basically a wide canoe with a transom for a motor. These boats are ideal for fishing skinny water, rivers, lakes or inshore. This River Hawk is 15′ long, 55″ wide and has a carry capacity of up to 700lbs. They were made in Winder Georgia many years ago (1990’s). The company that made them has gone out of business. But the boats that remain are both a relic and collectors item for river boaters. In this video, I give a bow to stern walkaround on this vessel in the state in which I purchased it in.
This is the BEFORE look at my River Hawk B60. I plan to do a lot of restoration over the next few years as I deal this in to a Chattahoochee River Queen. This boat came with two seats and a very old trolling motor (mounted on the bow). The Newport Vessels 55lb Thrust Trolling motor equates to about .08hp. It works great with kayaks. I’ll use this as an electric only lake motor or as an electric axillary motor. I do plan to add a 10hp to 15hp Gas Outboard to this setup. That will likely be a Suzuki. But I’m still shopping at the time of writing this blog entry.
Take a gander at the width of the River Hawk B60! 55″ is a lot of deck space. This boat is rated for 4 people, but best fished with 2 people. It’s easy to stand and move around the boat. On this particular craft, the center console has been modified into a bait tank/live well. I will likely convert this back into storage. Mainly because I fish with artificial lures quite a bit. If I do end up fishing with live bait, I already have a portable bait tank that I’ve used with other boats that will serve well.
